Summer Fashion Trends 2024: The 5 Best Looks by Stefanie Giesinger, Rebecca Mir & Heidi Klum

Whether it’s a summer festival, garden party, or a sunny day at your favourite café: the hot season is back, bringing with it a plethora of new fashion trends. From light fabrics to casual cuts and chic classics, you’re sure to find your new favourite outfit here. Even better, you probably already have some pieces in your wardrobe that are just waiting to be brought out again.

1. Transparent Looks

No other season embodies lightness and airy fabrics quite like summer. Thus, one of this season’s biggest fashion trends perfectly aligns with this theme. Fashion labels like Givenchy, Prada, and Altuzarra have shown in their collections how to wear transparency now. Sheer fabrics are paired with chunky wool sweaters or trench coats. For those who prefer not to reveal too much, layering is the key—try wearing a tank top underneath. Transparency was also a major theme on “Germany’s Next Topmodel” this year, where designer Esther Perbandt sent models down the runway in see-through looks.

2. White Maxi Dresses

Elegant or sporty, white dresses are always timeless. This summer, they are making a comeback and will be a constant presence throughout the season in various styles. While the cuts tend to be minimalist, the designs captivate with details such as lace, 3-D flowers, or draping. Their length ranges from mid-calf to floor-length. Style them for everyday wear with an oversized denim jacket or dress them up for a date night with a blazer and pumps. Paired with a business bag and mules, they become the perfect office companion.

3. Ready for Short Shorts?

Last season, wide trousers or the no-pants trend were all the rage, but now a more wearable look is finding its way into our wardrobes. Classic shorts are back, albeit in a shorter version. Known as micro-shorts, they were paired with boxy blazers and office shoes on the Prada runway and with long denim jackets at Alexander McQueen. TV presenter Annemarie Carpendale styles her denim hotpants for holiday wear with an asymmetrical bikini top and sneakers for a sporty hike.

4. Sexy & Casual Office Styles

The perfect trend for all the boss ladies out there! This summer, we’re taking office chic beyond the 9 to 5, wearing it any time of day or night. Oversized blazers with shoulder pads are making a comeback, giving you a strong, confident look thanks to their extravagant silhouette. You can choose from a wide range of trendy colours—from clean earth tones to fresh pastels. For styling, you can go for casual denim looks like Heidi Klum or opt for all-over office styles à la Victoria Beckham.

5. Loose Fits

Long before boyfriend jeans hit the trend radar, it was worth visiting the men’s sections of our favourite shops. Sometimes you find unique styles for androgynous looks that not everyone has. Loose fits have been gaining popularity over the past few years, and this summer, we can’t get through the season without relaxed baggy styles. From loose-fitting jeans to wide trousers and XL jackets, it’s all here. For an especially cool look, mix and match various oversized pieces. Think layering!
